The Darling River: Australia's Iconic Waterway

One of Australia's best driving adventures, the Darling River Run, crosses Outback NSW from Walgett (or Lightning Ridge) to Wentworth, over 730 km, along well-maintained dirt roads. The Run follows the Darling River, Australia's third longest (1,472km), and best experienced over two weeks, with longer itineraries adding more opportunities to enjoy Far West NSW.

The Darling River Run is an adventure along Australia's third-largest river, which traditionally starts at Walgett but should also include the iconic opal town of Lightning Ridge and the Grawin.

As a waterway (including its longest tributaries), the Darling is Australia's longest. It stretches from South East Queensland through Outback NSW to Wentworth - on the NSW/Victorian border - where it joins the Murray River. From Wentworth, the Murray flows into South Australia and onto Lake Alexandrina.
